Hello, my name is Niels. I am a Clinical Professional Therapist, registered in France, and I practice psychotherapy mostly in Lyon, France. As a France-Registered Therapist, I have over two and a half years of experience working in hospitals, clinics, retirement houses, charitable organizations, and daycares for young adults with disabilities.

With Healing Together, my main goal is to provide accessible therapy services to the English-speaking and French-speaking residents in South Korea. I experienced quite a culture shock as an expat working in South Korea, so I have first-hand experience of how it can be a long and challenging process for foreign people to adjust and to be able to feel at home here. With this strong sense of empathy, I'm eager to help clients work on these difficulties, which are inherent to the fact of being an expat.

Through the different positions I had as a clinical therapist, I mainly focused on parent-child relationship, family caregivers' difficulties, prevention of workplace burnout, support after a physical/verbal assault, and disease diagnosis acceptance.

CLINICAL APPROACH

In my clinical work, I help adult clients by offering them ways to cope with life's challenges. We all face barriers at some point in life, and depending on our situation at work, with our family, our friends, and other factors, these difficulties can be overwhelming and the way to solve them can be difficult or almost impossible to find by ourselves. Since everyone is uniquely individual, the journey of therapy and self-discovery require exploration of the client's environments, past, and main relationships with openness and curiosity.

I integrate frameworks and intervention skills of psychoanalytic-inspired therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. I find that these two theories help the client to better understand their ways of dealing with situations, as well as giving them tools and techniques that they can use to strengthen their mindfulness, gain greater insight, and make changes that are meaningful to them. However, I know that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The framework and the interventions will be customized to meet your needs. This therapy will be a collaborative work - no one knows yourself better than you, and that will be the guiding thread of the whole therapy. Listening to you, your feelings, and your knowledge about yourself and the situations you're facing will always be the main focus.

To me, every encounter is a wonderful experience to live and can make us learn more about ourselves. The encounters and the dynamic of the therapeutic relationship can help the client know more about themselves, their boundaries, and their resources

INTERESTS, HOBBIES, & FUN FACTS

I moved to Korea recently. I've been always passionate about traveling, discovering new countries, and meeting new people. Related to that, I'm really passionate about learning languages. I can speak English, French, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, and Italian, with different levels of proficiency. I like to spend time outdoors, especially going "cafe hopping", to karaokes to sing some old kpop and pop songs to release the tension a bit, and to museums. For downtime, I enjoy playing videos games and cooking with my friends. Fun fact: my father was initially a baker for 30 years, but I'm really bad at baking. I guess that talent can skip a generation.
