Hi, my name is Sue (Su Kyung Kim) and I am a therapist-in-training with a deep passion for helping people from all walks of life feel seen, heard, and understood. I was born in South Korea, but because of my father’s job, I have had the unique opportunity to live in several different countries, including the United States, France, Japan, and the UAE. These experiences have given me a broad perspective on how cultural differences shape who we are and how we navigate the world around us.
Having lived within and across multiple cultures, I can relate to the feeling of being caught between two worlds, wanting to honor your roots while also adapting to a new environment. I know that while living abroad can be exciting, it can also bring up challenges like feeling disconnected, or the sense of not quite being at home anywhere. My goal is to provide a warm, safe space where we can explore these feelings together, helping you reclaim a strong sense of identity and build the tools you need to thrive.
I believe therapy is all about creating a trusting relationship where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and experiences free from judgement. Whether you are navigating cultural challenges, identity struggles, or just need someone to talk to, I am here to accompany and guide you on your journey toward healing and growth.
CLINICAL APPROACH
I am currently a master’s level MA in Counseling Psychology practicum student who is qualified to practice at the practicum site under the clinical supervision of an approved practicum Supervisor. I am also working as a substitute teacher for Grades 6–12 at a well-known international school in South Korea, which allows me to be closely connected to the classroom environment and deepen my understanding of the challenges students face today. Prior to this, I worked as a school counselor for students in Grade 3-5, where I had the privilege of supporting young learners with their social and emotional development.
My background in education and counseling, combined with my personal experiences living abroad, has deepened my passion for supporting students and families as they adapt to new environments and navigate complexities surrounding their identity. In my work, I prioritize empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the belief that everyone has their own unique strengths and resilience.
I’m highly motivated to deepen my skills in solution-focused therapy, and am actively seeking training opportunities to enhance my ability to help clients identify practical strategies and achieve their goals. I’m also interested in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based practices. As an intern, I’m genuinely excited to connect with and support clients. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming space where they feel comfortable sharing their concerns and confident in taking steps toward growth. I have a special passion for working with children and adolescents, thanks to my experience with students and building strong connections with them. This drives me to create a supportive environment where young clients can feel understood.

INTERESTS, HOBBIES, & FUN FACTS
I have been fortunate to live and work in different roles and cultural settings. Though I was born in South Korea, I was educated at the American School of Paris, as well as Nashville, Tennessee during my childhood, experiences that forged my multicultural identity. From there, I spent time living in Dubai as a flight attendant with Emirates Airlines, where I got to travel to about 72 countries and meet people from a range of different backgrounds. The experience taught me much about the beauty of diversity and the amazing stories everyone has to share.
When I’m not working, I love staying active. These days, I’m passionate about working out at the gym and watching soccer. I’m a huge Chelsea F.C. fan! I’m also currently the middle school boys’ soccer assistant coach, a truly rewarding experience that’s helped me practice providing emotional support and encouragement to the players in a competitive environment.
I love to unwind and enjoy the outdoors, taking long walks in nature with my dog, but also by myself when my only companion is great music. Connecting with people, learning new things, and exploring different perspectives are still a big part of who I am, and I’m always looking for ways to grow.
