Hello, my name is Chong, and my Korean name is Jung-Hye. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, practicing psychotherapy in Maryland and Virginia, USA. Besides being one of the founding members of Healing Together, I have a solo private practice on the stateside.

I was born in Seoul, Korea and immigrated to the US at age 10. As a 1.5 generation immigrant, my private practice is centered around serving the Asian American community, where availability and accessibility to Asian American therapists are inadequate. With Healing Together, my mission is to build and operate a counseling center committed to offering available and accessible therapy services to the English-speakers residing in South Korea.

I have fifteen years of experience in mental health since my graduate studies. Through continuous learning and discovering, I have come to direct my passion and focus on trauma work - attachment injuries, relational and developmental trauma, and immigration trauma and intergenerational trauma.

CLINICAL APPROACH

My clients are most often adults in their 20’s and 30’s, wanting to find relief from chronic anxiety, overwhelming stress, mood disturbances, and struggles with ADHD, all of which significantly impair day-to-day functioning and relationship with self and others. I also love helping my clients navigate through the challenges that come with pivotal crossroads of life and enter into healthy transitions. I invite them to go on this journey of self-discovery and growth with curiosity and openness to explore their inner workings, interpersonal relationships, and environments.

As I get to know you, I will offer a framework and interventions that are customized to best meet your unique needs and strengths. Be assured that this will be collaborative efforts, as I trust you to know yourself and your life better than anyone else. Along the way, you will gain greater understanding and insight into who you are authentically, learn to apply practical tools that will strengthen your mindfulness and self-compassion, and make changes that align with your values and intentions.

As I value holistic approach of addressing and balancing your emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs, I like to integrate frameworks and intervention skills of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

I believe in a client-centered, trauma-informed, strength-based, and restorative justice-oriented approach to therapy. I am dedicated to the practice of challenging and dismantling beliefs and values based on the systems of oppression and colonization. Out of all the therapeutic interventions, I believe that the most important agent of change and healing is the therapeutic relationship that is based on trust, safety, authenticity, compassion, and unyielding hope.
